As they mature, our students will face a unique challenge that our generation (as parents and teachers) have only begun to experience. Knowledge and technology are increasing so rapidly that it seems by the time we have mastered just one small area of understanding, new developments have made our factual expertise obsolete. By the time we become proficient on one complicated computer program, not only the program has been revised beyond recognition, but the computer itself has been replaced by a much more sophisticated model!
To be prepared to meet this challenge, our students need enough self-confidence to step out and try things that have never been done before, they need creative ability to invent solutions to problems that have never existed before, and they need a wide variety of successful experiences to foster both their self-confidence and creativity.
Operation Starship was conceived and designed to provide middle school students with a set of successful experiences that would go far beyond anything possible in the classroom or home. This adventure will expand their horizons and give them a vision of how much they really can accomplish!
