PHASES OF OPERATION STARSHIP

 

I.  Space Academy Level 1- Huntsville, Alabama

        Space Academy exposes the student to the most up-to-date advances in space science, space technology and space science related careers.  It provides a variety of experiences that promote divergent thinking skills through cooperative learning.

 

II.  Wider Horizons- Orlando, Florida

    A.  Sea World maintains the world's best collection of sea life and acts as an impressive  introduction to marine habitats of the world.  The scope of oceanography will entice students to know and understand more about the oceans which cover our planet.  The behind-the -scenes tour offers students new insight into how to preserve our oceans and rescue endangered marine life.

    B. EPCOT exposes the student to the world of the future.  Each participant will analyze his or her own future role in managing resources and environments.

    C.  At Discovery Cove students will snorkel in a coral reef, swim through an aviary where several species of birds land right on their shoulders, and have one on one contact with a dolphin!!

                                                                                             

 

III.  The San Francisco Experience

    A.  The LAWRENCE HALL OF SCIENCE at the University of California at Berkley offers a variety of workshops for high school students at their world famous laboratory where the atomic accelerator was invented.   Starship crewmembers will attend three workshops and tour this top notch science museum.

    B.  As the group travels through JOHN MUIR WOODS along the Pacific Coast rain forest, students will enjoy interplay of biology and geology in this unique ecosystem which includes some of the largest trees found on earth.  This serene environment will assist students in "coming down to Earth" after twelve intensive days of activities.

 

    C.  The EXPLORATORIUM, Robert Oppenheimer's contribution to science education, is the world's preeminent "hands-on" science museum.  Students will discover and apply scientific principles through stimulating and fun oriented experiments and observations.
