| All of these breast infections made taking care of myself and my baby quite difficult.
The doctor told me I had done a heroic job of trying to nurse Rebekah. When I look
back, I think we did almost everything we could to help her get the milk we know is best
for her. The decision to wean was very difficult for me since I originally wanted to
nurse for at least a year. But with everything that we had been through and the
uncertainty of things getting any better with continued nursing/pumping, we decided it was
most important for me to be healthy so I could take better care of Rebekah. Thursday was Rebekah's first full day as a formula-fed baby. She took the change quite well and is eating just fine. On Friday I had the honor of changing the first really smelly diaper. We're noticing a big difference in the diapers...both wet and messy. Either she's wetting her diapers a lot more or we're just able to tell now because the wet ones smell! And the messy one's are not nearly as explosive as they had been. What they say about breast-fed babies having sweet-smelling diapers is definitely true! I'm the one having a hard time adapting to formula-feeding. I hate the smell of the formula, perhaps because it smells almost exactly like her dirty diapers! I must admit, though, that it's nice to be able to eat just about anything again. I feasted on spaghetti with lots of garlic Thursday night! I can also have things like cabbage, onions, chocolate, and caffeine once again, though I'm definitely still limiting the chocolate. |
