| While I was dealing with the whole breast issue, I decided to experiment with some of
the things I had read. One of the things that What to Expect the First Year
suggests is to try and activate as many of your baby's senses as possible. I've been
doing well so far at making sure she hears, sees, smells, and tastes as much as possible,
but until now I hadn't let her feel nearly as many things as I might have. So, I tried a few things - I laid Rebekah face-down on a few different surfaces to let her really feel and experience them. I laid her on the carpet, on the sofa, on an exercise mat, etc. The other thing I did was lay things next to her that have different textures and designs. Some of her favorites are plaid flannel shirts, Daddy's silk shirt, and the black and gold patterned pillows we keep on our sofa. If I lay any one of these down next to her, it will keep her interest for 20 minutes or so! Of course, all of these items have the added benefit of smelling like us, which is sure to also keep her quite happy. Her favorite is the pillow, which she can push against and can actually feel the design! With all of these things to keep her occupied and exploring, who needs infant development toys?!! |
