Week 1

Today Rebekah was not doing any better with nursing. We again called Nyasha, and she referred us once again to Sharon, the lactation consultant who had visited us at the hospital. Upon calling her, she told us all the things Nyasha already had, then suggested that I pump some milk and feed it to Rebekah using a medicine dropper.

Joe made an emergency run to Wal-mart and came back with less money and a very nice Evenflo electric dual pump kit. I managed to pump some milk, and we fed Rebekah by sticking a finger in her mouth to stimulate her sucking reflex and releasing milk using the medicine dropper inserted next to our finger. It was tedious, but at least we knew how much Rebekah was getting...and that she was getting something.

Tonight Rebekah seemed inconsolable while we were in bed trying to sleep. I had tried everything I could think of to quiet her. Then Joe picked her up and started dancing and bouncing across the room with her. He looked so silly I started to laugh...and almost immediately started to cry because my incision hurt when I laughed.
