Nyasha sent us back to the hospital to get checked. We assumed we would get a sleeping pill and come home. When they examined me at the hospital, however, they discovered that I was 3-4 cm dilated and about 70% effaced. I'd come a long way in 24 hours, though not as far as we had hoped I would. Since I was that far along, they gave me a pill and a shot that would allow me to rest for awhile. I also spent a half hour in the whirlpool tub with Joe pouring hot water over my belly during each contraction. After that, I drifted off to sleep, being only slightly aware of a nurse coming in every half hour to check on the baby's heartrate. I was told that I would certainly wake up when it was time to push!
